What is chemistry?
The scientific study of matter's properties, composition, and structure, and the changes it undergoes, as well as the energy changes that accompany these processes.
What is matter?
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
What is an atom?
The smallest fundamental unit of an element that retains the chemical properties of that element, consisting of a nucleus (protons and neutrons) and orbiting electrons.
What is an element?
A pure substance consisting only of atoms that all have the same numbers of protons in their atomic nuclei.
What is a compound?
A substance formed when two or more chemical elements are chemically bonded together in a fixed ratio.
What is a molecule?
A group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds; it is the smallest unit of a chemical compound or an elemental gas that can exist independently.
Name the three primary subatomic particles and their charges.
